For me, the 285's and 4.56 gears isn't too bad. My RPM's are around 2400 (as I recall last I looked) when I'm cruising at 70mph and I rarely go any faster than 70-75. I initially went with 4.56 since I was planning to some day install 35" tires. Another thing is that my truck isn't my daily driver, I mostly use it to cruise around on the weekends, tow my boat, haul stuff, etc. With me only having the V6, the extra low end grunt from those gears really helps me to move that truck when towing and hauling. I average any where from 13 - 16mpg, not too bad considering my lift, large tires and V6 engine. Another thing that helps me is that I have an XCAL2, so my PCM is calibrated to reflect my changes in tire size and gears.

What gears do you have now? I went from factory 3.55LS to my 4.56LS, pretty significant jump. I sometimes wish I had just went to 4.10's, but like I said, my truck isn't my DD, so it's cool.

Thanks. I just have the torsion bars cranked in the front, and 2" lift shackles in the rear. My tires are 315/75-16 (35"x12.5")

To place a picture in your Signature, First open your album and select the picture you want, be sure it is not to large. When that picture is open right click on "BB Code" and save not "Picture URL". Then click on the "User CP" in the upper left black bar. When the screen changes click on "Edit Signature" under "Settings & Options". Right click in the box labeled "Edit Signature" and past... That's all there is to it... Let me know how it goes...
